Visa and passport requirements
To enter Uganda, most foreign nationals will need a visa and a valid passport whose validity period is not less than six (6) months. All visa applications are received online through the Government of Uganda e-immigration portal accessible via this link https://visas.immigration.go.ug
When applying for a tourist visa on the portal, you should select the Application Type Visa. Under Category, you have the option to select either Uganda Ordinary/Tourist Visa with Sub–category Single Entry or, East Africa Tourist Visa with Sub-category East Africa Tourist Visa. Holders of the East Africa Tourist visa will be allowed multiple entries into Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda. Nationals of all countries (and their dependants, who must apply in their own right), are eligible to apply for the East Africa Tourist visa. You may only enter the region through the country that issued your East Africa Tourist visa and from there, proceed to any of the remaining two countries without any additional visa requirements.
For a Uganda Ordinary/Tourist Visa you will need the following documents and visa processing fees:
◦ Passport biodata page
◦ Recent passport photograph (jpeg, png, bmp, pdf file formats) of size 5k – 250k
◦ Yellow Fever vaccination certificate
◦ Return air ticket
◦ Visa application fees of USD 50
For an East Africa Tourist Visa, you will need:
◦ All the documents listed under the Uganda Ordinary/Tourist Visa
◦ Detailed travel itinerary
◦ Visa application fees of USD 100
Note that for all types of visas:
◦ Payment is made online via the visa application portal. The Department of Citizenship and Immigration of Uganda will commence processing of your visa application only upon receipt of the specified visa fees.
◦ All payments are non-refundable and a surcharge may apply.
All correspondences and notifications about your visa application will be sent to the email address you provided, once your application has been received by the authorities.
Your visa application will be assigned a unique application number that you can use to track it via the visa application portal.
If approved, your visa approval letter, which serves as a Travel Authorization document, will be sent to you via email. You should print it out and along with your passport, present it to the immigration officer at the port of entry into Uganda.
Applications are generally considered within 2 – 3 working days after submission, except under special circumstances where additional documents are required and/or fruther verification is required.
Tourist Single Entry (Uganda Ordinary/Tourist) visas are issued for a maximum duration of 3 months while Multiple Entry (East Africa Tourist) visas have a maximum duration of six months, from the date of issue.
Applicants are advised to submit visa application within three (3) months of the intended date of visit to Uganda Extension for the Uganda Ordinary/Tourist visa may be applied for at the immigration office in Kampala. There is no extension for the East Africa Tourist visa.
e-Visas are approved in Kampala, but issued upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport. However, you can have your visa issued to you at the Ugandan embassy in your country, if available. Contact the Ugandan Embassy in your country for further information.

Uganda has waived visa requirements (i.e., visa exemption) for nationals of certain
countries. The list of Uganda visa exempt countries is provided below:
◦ East African Community: Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
◦ COMESA: Eritrea, Angola, Malawi, Sycheles, Madagascar, Eswatini, Comoros, Mauritius, Zambia.
◦ Other visa exempt countries: Ireland, Malaysia, Malta, Ghana, Botswana, Cyprus, Solomon Islands, Sierra Leone, Lesotho, Grenada, Singapore, Jamaica, The Gambia, Belize, Bahamas, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Vanuatu, Fiji, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, Zimbabwe, Trinidad and Tobago.
